So just out of curiosity is it wrong that I don’t feel like a victim because I’m gay? I don’t have to ride in the back of the bus. I can vote. I can drink from whatever water fountain I want. Do I need to start searching out ways to be discriminated against? Should I feel a little more put upon by the world?
It seems like this is the popular trend amongst the modern gay community. President Obama has come under fire quite a bit lately because he hasn’t come through with a lot of the promises he made before the election. I TOTALLY SAW THIS COMING! If you turn back the page a few years I wrote a blog about Obamachrist Syndrome, the unobstructed love and devotion to Obama. It was planetary, everyone in the world was banking on him coming in and cleaning house. He was here to answer our wildest prayers but I knew if he didn’t come through within the first year his loyal followers would turn on him in a heartbeat – and now they are.
And of course it starts with the gay community because if nothing we’re egocentric and selfish. IT’S SO TRUE! We’re so self-involved that we’re completely closed to the idea that the president could be tied up with other issues like the horrible state the economy’s been in since Regan left office. It’s great that there are groups out there fighting for us but do they have to be such freakin martyrs? Do they have to turn on Obama just because he’s running a nation of over 300 BILLION people and hasn’t put the needs of a group representing 4% of them at the top of his list? Seriously, how selfish is that? Not to mention Obama has already made great strides for the gay community, just this month he granted hospital visitation rights to gay and lesbian couples. Things take time and to a generation of spoiled brats that are used to instant results this seems like a really long time.
Personally inequality doesn’t ride on my mind most of the day, things like “can I afford to eat this week?” and “if I get sick, am I gonna DIE because I can’t afford healthcare?” do for some reason. I guess that’s more important to me than being able to marry or die for a country that doesn’t care about me overseas, but my priorities must be out of wack.
I’m no political analyst by any means but I know I don’t have to sit in the back of the bus – if I rode it at least… but I’m not Rosa Parks, I don’t do the bus. I can go to any public university I want, well I could if I didn’t still owe on defaulted student loans. I can drink from any water fountain if I didn’t think the government was making us more subdued by adding fluoride to the water. I do know that even though I’m a naturopath I’m still going to have to pay for medical insurance or get fined by the government in the new healthcare plan. Also if I choose to suntan in a controlled environment which is proven to actually be good for your health I now have to pay a new tax on that too.
I couldn’t agree more!
Oh, except you should ride the bus, and go easy on the sun beds….
You clearly don’t think that the whole world revolves around you and your needs – there is a bigger picture.
Oh, but give Uganda a miss for a bit – ypu might feel a bit more of a victim there. I know it was high on your “places to visit” list.
yeah, I’m sure I’d feel like a victim if I were dropped on the wrong side of the lion cage at the zoo too, and since those people basically live like animals anyway it wouldn’t be much of a difference. I mean COME ON they put a CHICKEN on their country’s flag. It’s hard for me to take anyone like that seriously.
