I just saw this on Yahoo! News and thought it was too cool. The Shrek franchise is FINALLY coming to an end – don’t get me wrong I love the movies, and as far as sequels go Dreamworks has done an amazing job of keeping each one fresh and interesting – but how long can it possibly live on?
With the release of Shrek 4: Forever After, dreamworks is also bringing in some totally fresh talent for the voice of Rumpelstiltskin – the character’s own creator screenwriter Walt Dohrn.
This is so effing cool to me that someone who works behind the scenes of actually making a work of art like this come to life gets to embed himself so deeply into the art.
The life of a writer is usually one of little to no recognition. When you see a movie poster like “2012” you don’t see Roland Emmerich and Harald Kloser, you see John Cusack and Amanda Peet. When you watch the Oscars you don’t even see the awards given to the best screenwriter, they have those awards like early in the day while all the pretty people are on the red carpet.
I think it’s really cool that with Shrek’s big goodbye Dreamworks is paying a homage to the true backbone of the industry.
